Careers
We're looking for rare individuals. Teachers with degrees in early childhood or environmental education and a fire in the belly to make a difference. Administrators with a head for business and a heart for helping children reach their full potential. People who are so invested that they'll stay with us for years, growing and developing our educational community. Is that you?

On Friday, October 29, we are hosting a book fair and activity at the Cary Barnes and Noble from 5-7P.  We receive 20% of the identified proceeds from sales that night.  The way to make sure we get credit is to use the following ID # – 10301810.

We are going to use the proceeds to develop a children’s library in our school.

Here are several key bits of information:

  1. ANYONE can use the ID number.  So PLEASE share with friends and family.
  2. The ID number can also be used for online purchases form anywhere in the world.  So again, please share with all your relatives.  They can use this as a great opportunity to purchase Christmas and other gifts.
  3. The online code can be used 10/30 through 11/3.  Visit www.bn.com.

I am not a big fan of schools doing fundraisers, but I am a big fan of having a children’s library in our school.  I hope we give that effort a large boost through a successful book fair.

All of the staff and students at The Grove School of Cary thank you for your support!

While we worked in the classroom studying houses and different kinds of homes and we were out in the Grove classroom, we began the week reading the story of The Three Little Pigs. On Tuesday we used a scale to weigh the different materials used by the pigs to build their houses: straw, sticks and brick. We learned how the scale worked and that the heavy building material made one side of the scale go down, and the light building material made the other side of the scale go up. The class was then able to identify which material was the heaviest (brick) and which material was the lightest (straw). We then spent the rest of the week creating each house, a house of straw, a house of sticks and a house of brick. On Friday, the class then acted out the story using the houses they created!

The staff and students in Plano were thrilled Friday to have some very special visitors to the school.  As a closing activity to their study of pets, the students were treated to a very special show presented by some very talented dogs.  Six beautiful and well-trained dogs performed for about 30 minutes in front of the whole school.  Both the students and the dogs were howling with excitement as the dogs walked, jumped, caught frisbees, danced and jumped through hoops.  At the end, the students were able to pet the dogs.

Take a moment to watch some highlights of the dogs’ performance.

Dr. Elanna Yalow, the Executive Vice President of Knowledge Universe (our parent company), traveled recently to Singapore to participate in a number of lectures. While there, she had the opportunity to visit a number of schools.  Click to visit her interesting and informative BLOG ENTRY about her trip.

I am hoping to have the opportunity to learn more about these programs and look for opportunities to incorporate ideas and practices into The Grove School. It would be interesting to see if we can develop some type of collaborative effort with these schools. I believe it could reap benefits for both staff and students.
